Understand Threads

See how Threads show the work an Octavus Agent completes after it receives a request.

Threads give you a clear record of what an Octavus Agent is working on after it receives a request. You can use them to follow progress, review the work behind an answer, and give feedback when something needs adjustment.

A walkthrough of agent work in Threads

How a Thread starts

A new Thread starts when an Agent receives a conversation. This can happen when you:

  • Send the Agent a message directly.
  • Trigger work from a connected system such as Slack or email.
  • Start a new Thread manually.

What you can review

A Thread shows the work that supports an Agent's response. Depending on the task, you may see:

  • The request and follow-up questions.
  • The Agent's thought process and progress.
  • Integrations it activates and information it reads.
  • To-do lists used to organize the task.
  • Web searches, skill calls and installations, and MCP connectors.

When to use Threads

Use a Thread when you want to understand how an outcome was reached, check progress on active work, or review a workflow that did not behave as you expected. The Agent completes most work in the background, so you can return to the Thread when you need more context or want to give feedback.

Verify

Open the relevant Thread and confirm that it shows the request, the work performed, and the final response.
