Onboard your new agent

Give a newly hired Octavus Agent the company context, working relationships, priorities, and access it needs to begin work.

Give a newly hired Octavus Agent the same starting context you would give a new teammate: what the company does, the agent's role, who it works with, and what to focus on first.

Video walkthrough

Walkthrough of giving a newly hired Octavus Agent the context and access it needs.

Prerequisites

You need an agent that has finished setup. If you have not hired one yet, see Hire and onboard your first agent.

Steps

  1. Open the agent from the Manage tab and start a new thread.
  2. Send a short greeting to begin the conversation. Your agent introduces itself and asks for the information it needs to get started.
  3. Explain your company and product. Include the customers or audience the agent should keep in mind.
  4. Describe the agent's role, your expectations, and its immediate focus areas.
  5. Tell the agent who it works with and how decisions are made. This gives it the management structure and points of contact it needs to collaborate effectively.
  6. Review the access the agent requests, such as a company email or collaboration tools. Grant access through your organization's approved process. Do not paste a real password into a chat thread.
  7. Add useful company context as the work develops. You can return to the thread whenever the agent needs clarification.
  8. After you add the agent to your company email or a collaboration tool such as Slack or Microsoft Teams, continue working with it there when that is more convenient for your team.

Verify

Your agent can describe its role, company context, key contacts, priorities, and the access it still needs. You can continue assigning work in its thread or in an approved collaboration tool.
